Being a successful entrepreneur is known as one of the most difficult paths to follow and it can become even harder if suffering from a physical disability. Envisioning a better future, entrepreneurs with disabilities in Medellin are determined to make a living by running their own business. The project aims to reinforce the personal and professional development of 5 entrepreneurs, providing them with qualified training and support to develop their business in the appropriate way.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
There are 15,640 people with disabilities in the city of Medellin, out of which 68% are living in poverty, making their situation harder than it already is. Living with a disability requires special resources and treatments that are not often reachable, because of economic matters. Taking into consideration the harsh social and economic context in Colombia, five of these people this project is supporting are facing not only physical challenges but also economic and psychological barriers.
How will this project solve this problem?
This project aims to support 5 people with disabilities to enhance their businesses, overcome their reality and improve the quality of their lives. To strengthen our efforts in reinforcing their entrepreneurial spirit and reach their full potential, Interactuar partnered with friends from the 'Amigos con calor humano' NGO. Together, we will provide entrepreneurs with evaluation, a thorough development plan of their business and qualified training and support on creating a safe work environment.
Potential Long Term Impact
The project bases its long term impact on enhancing the entrepreneurial spirit among business owners with disabilities. This project will help them realize their own capacity and will empower them to lead the way to social inclusion and determination to overcome their reality. If these people would manage to provide a higher income for their families, they will be able to offer quality education to their children, maintaining the entrepreneurial culture within generations.
