Many girls are unable to go to school due to family circumstances and the political situation in Afghanistan.  Girls want to continue their education and are tuning into Meraj Academy on Dr. Yacoobi’s TV Meraj which provides daily, high school curriculum for grades 7-12. Teaching takes place 4 times a day in one- hour lessons.  Radio Meraj is another education resource for adolescents as it provides education, news and information. Girls learn about health, hygiene, community activities and activism from the radio broadcasts.

Girls who cannot get to school also attend learning centers where they are able to study academic subjects, income generating skills and modern skills such as computing and English.  So far in 2023, 5,230 women and girls (including 2,030 adolescent females) have attended learning centers during the difficult and harsh winter months.

AIL’s network of 12 health clinics provide health care to adolescent girls as well as vital health education. Girls learn from an early age how to care for themselves and the particular health concerns of their gender, especially related to reproductive health.  Education empowers them to take control of their health journey.

Your support makes all the difference! Thank you.
