In Igbeagu-Izzi many people are subsistent farmers. PHC was introduced to improve medical services. Two professional community health workers are trained to reinforce PHC in the area.
Since 15 years the Village Development Project IZZI, a project of the "International Institute for Rural Development" (IIRD), tries to find the right formula for a "bottom-up"-grassroot-Primary Health Care. From 1997 till 2001 Dr. Tagapulot, a gynaecologist from the Philippines, introduced in the area of Igbeagu-Izzi PHC as it was recommended by WHO in Alma-Ata in the year 1978. To reinforce PHC and to make it sustainable two motivated native professional health workers are trained.
Mrs. Justin Nwadum worked as nurse in a hospital (children ward, maternity, theatre). Now she will be trained in the "School of Health" of the Ebonyi State (4 years). Mr. Chindu Awo studies Nursing Science in the Ebonyi State University (5 years).
To guarantee the work of the health professionals in the PHC-Project of IIRD after the training a contract of employment is made between the "International Institute for Rural Development" (IIRD) and the two professional health workers.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
