ART AND LOVE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

“Art is not only the creation of things,

But the possibility to transform the world with them”

Victor, young rapper from Medellin’s 8º district

Educating for peace is learning to share a minimum of humanity; this means free, loving, dreamy and sensitive human beings, who protect life as the highest expression.

There is no doubt that children and young people in Colombia suffer from different types of violence, that comes from a culture of war where nobody wins, but instead everyone loses and specially the younger generations.

Being a missional objective to Educate children and adolescents victims of violence and those living in zones of conflict in Peace skills, at Mi Sangre we have been promoting social processes in which learning attitudes of respect toward people, peers commitment and responsibility for the peaceful resolution of conflict are primordial.

Society in general, families and schools have the unavoidable responsibility of teaching habits that build the basis of nonviolence living, a whole system of values articulated with human rights, love, respect and coexistence.

Educating for peace involves promoting in children and young people a critical attitude to address the different situations of violence, which lead them to choose the right path. To this extent art plays a vital role because through this we can tell, recognize, express, dream, love, excel, learn and contribute constructively to community development and peace building.

There is no peace where there is discrimination, inequality, poverty, marginalization and injustice. Peace is only possible to harvest when society have respect for others, value the different ways of expression, recognize children and youth as the future, when we live in coexistence, have democratic accountability and care for the earth while loving ourselves.
