The year has started and we already have 146 pupils registered for the following courses: ComputerSkills, Receptionist, English, Verbal Communication, Cooking, Manicure, Sewingand Guitar.
We keep adapting to the demand of the communities, which explains why new courses arein and others are out.
We are no longer focusing exclusively on youths given that we have realized that many older people are alsoeager to learn and live a more decent life.
Many are interested inour cooking courses and guitar is also a succes.
Things are going well and we seem to have reached our cruise speed.
Thank you all so much for your support!!
Our target was to train 360 youths in 2012. Even though the target was not fully attained, the result is quite encouraging. We have trained in total 333 young (and not so young)people. We added yet another course to train manicures and this course isproving to be a real success. We have already a very touching story of a 60year old lady that completed the course and set up her own little business in aFavela, doing door to door manicure. Of the 333 trained pupils, 227 pupils have successfullycompleted a given course. Of course we would have liked all 333 to complete the courses. Nevertheless, those that did not complete the course spent several days with us and were kept of the streets, which is also part of our mission.
All of this would not have been possible without our donors and all the volunteers that gotinvolved in the project.
Thank you all again for your generous donations!!
Season´s Greetings to all and a very Happy 2013.
We have now registered 268 pupils in 2012 of which 90 dropped out. Therefore 178 pupils (net) were trained so far. A very good performance and we do expect to reach our target of 360 students (net) by year end.
There has been a slight change in our course program which now includes:receptionist, computing and computer maintenance, cooking, Spanish, English andsilk-screen.
We are very pleased overall with our organization, workers andvolunteers who are all doing a great job. Looks like we have reach our cruise speed!
Of course, all this would not be possible without your generousdonations.
Thank you all so much!!
We are happy that the number of pupils enrolled is meeting our goal.
The quality of our courses has also improved substantially due to the fact that we are able to pay for better teachers.
We have already trained 63 youths and another 54 are being trained. We have stopped silkscreen classes and have put in place silkscreen workshops instead, which are more popular and give the youths quicker training. A new workshop has been put in place for Manicure also.
Here is Sandro's (a pupil) testimony:
"My name is Sandro and I have been a student of the association for 2 years. I have taken administrative assistant classes and I am now taking English classes. I am rather suspect to talk about the association because I love this place. I love the quality of the courses and the teachers here have a different behavior, unlike other places where they seem to do their jobs just for obligation. Everybody here seems to be fully dedicated to the cause of the association".
On the less bright side, donations have decreased and we are very much in need of new donators.
Thank you so much to those that have supported us thus far!!
Summer vacation is over and Brazil is back to school.
81 young people have applied for our different courses in the 1st quarter. This is slightly below our target of 90 but still very good for the first quarter. We are still looking at a target of 360 students for the whole year (against 310 last year). Breakdown for the 1st quarter is as follows:
Administrative assistant: 21
Computer skills: 22
Call Center classes will begin on March 3rd: still no applications
Thanks to our improved financial situation and to the donations received, we now have a qualified and stable team of 10 teachers, a new secretary and one educator.
We were very pleased to learn that Felipe, one of our past students - who took administrative assistant classes - became an office boy, has found a stable job and is taking evening courses at college to become a lawyer. This is very rewarding news! Congratulations to him and to the whole Association team! And thank you to all donors and volunteers for your generous help. Your continued support is very important to our youths.
