We are now fully operational in our new premises. As a matter of fact, activities are broken down between two different locations that are at walking distance from one another.
In UNIT 1, we teach Computing, English, Ballet, Violin and School Help (for those who are having problems at school) and Baking;
In UNIT 2, we teach Computing, English, how to become a Receptionist, Silk Screen for T-shirts, Manicure/Pedicure and Knitting.
Currently 127 pupils are enrolled for the 1st quarter courses. This is slightly below target, but given the move to these new premises, it´s not a bad start.
We continue to share the premises with our sister association (Casa do Caminho) that assists mentally disabled children. We are hoping to completely unite with them in the near future in order to create synergies and reduce costs.
Check out the pictures of our pupils in the new premises.
Thank you all for your support!
2013 ended with yet very promising events!
In November and December we joined our forces with those of another association and moved to their premises. Our new partner is called Lar das Crianças Casa do Caminho which is specialized in assisting and providing activities to youths and adults affected with intellectual disabilities, especially Down syndrome.
Though we are now sharing their premises, we continue to be separate entities and we will carry on with our program which consists of teaching cooking, English, manicure, Music, computing skills and Administrative Assistant. The new premises are larger, more comfortable and are located in the middle of a very poor community of Itaquera, in the eastern suburbs of São Paulo. This will make it easier to find youths who want to enroll and will be a source of savings both on rent and transportation for our pupils.
More details are now available on Facebook: danyann.org
In 2013 we trained more than 500 youths. A very nice accomplishment when compared to our original goal. We continue to have problems with our financial situation and our daily struggle to raise funds is both fierce and time consuming. Your generous donations are always welcome!
We take this opportunity to wish you our Season´s Greetings and hope 2014 will give you Peace and Health. As for ourselves, we wish 2014 will bring more education to our youths!
Season´s Greetings to all!
Our organization has come to a turning point. Important decisions will have to be taken regarding our growth capabilities. It is obvious that with the increasing number of pupils, the organization is having to cope with a more difficult financial situation.
From March 2013 till today more than 500 pupils attended classes at Associação Danyann. This is well above what we were expecting (the target was 360 for the year).
The increase comes from the fact that we have new programs to allow the families of the students to also attend certain classes (manicure, crafts, cooking). We are also offering lectures to the parents on different matters such as environment, family planning, drug prevention.
However, due to this new situation, our cash availability is becoming tighter. Our options are: downsize or take a leap. Our success is very rewarding and WE REALLY WANT TO KEEP GOING AT THIS PACE. However, we need your help to increase our fundraising. Please take the opportunity of the year-end to make donations (gifts, gift certificate and so forth) in order to help us with this important mission. Please also involve your families, friends and co-workers!
We thank you so much on behalf of all the students, young or old, that are benefitting from our classes.
Associação Danyann: "Aprender e Evoluir"
The year has started and we already have 146 pupils registered for the following courses: ComputerSkills, Receptionist, English, Verbal Communication, Cooking, Manicure, Sewingand Guitar.
We keep adapting to the demand of the communities, which explains why new courses arein and others are out.
We are no longer focusing exclusively on youths given that we have realized that many older people are alsoeager to learn and live a more decent life.
Many are interested inour cooking courses and guitar is also a succes.
Things are going well and we seem to have reached our cruise speed.
Thank you all so much for your support!!
Our target was to train 360 youths in 2012. Even though the target was not fully attained, the result is quite encouraging. We have trained in total 333 young (and not so young)people. We added yet another course to train manicures and this course isproving to be a real success. We have already a very touching story of a 60year old lady that completed the course and set up her own little business in aFavela, doing door to door manicure. Of the 333 trained pupils, 227 pupils have successfullycompleted a given course. Of course we would have liked all 333 to complete the courses. Nevertheless, those that did not complete the course spent several days with us and were kept of the streets, which is also part of our mission.
All of this would not have been possible without our donors and all the volunteers that gotinvolved in the project.
Thank you all again for your generous donations!!
Season´s Greetings to all and a very Happy 2013.
