Thank you for your support of Oregon Children’s Theatre!

Since we last sent a project report, our 2010-2011 season of plays has concluded. We would like to take this opportunity to update our donors on the number of children and teachers from disadvantaged schools we served during the season.

58,471 students from 458 schools attended an OCT play during the 2010-2011 season. 3,860 received partial scholarships to attend, and 5,479 received full scholarships.

In addition, OCT offered 2 free professional development workshops for teachers. The workshops were designed to encourage the integration of arts learning activities into classroom lessons and to demonstrate how theater and the arts can benefit student achievement. 47 teachers attended the workshops.

Teachers were also invited to free preview performances so they could see the play and the theater prior to their field trip; helping them coordinate their trip and assisting with the integration of the play into classroom activities. 200 teachers attended free preview performances.

I’d like to share some letters from teachers who were able to bring their classes to an OCT field trip this year, thanks to full or partial ticket scholarship. We could not have offered these scholarships without your generous support.

“OCT performed fabulously again and made the literature come to life…You truly helped give these kids an experience they will always remember,” 1st-2nd grade teacher; received full scholarship

“The children were amazed by what they saw, one child kept asking me ‘Is it real, is it real?’ Thanks for such a new and different experience for them!” 1st grade teacher from Head Start classroom; received partial scholarship

“It was the perfect launch for our unit on insects,” 1st grade teacher; received full scholarship for Diary of a Worm, a Spider, and a Fly

“I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the play A Wrinkle in Time. Thank you so much for your generosity in providing us tickets. Our students don't get many opportunities to attend events such as these, and they were amazed. You and your staff are truly heroes to our kids,” 5th grade teacher; received full scholarship

Thank you again for your generous support of Oregon Children’s Theatre!
