Well, 2013 crept up on us quickly! And what a year it is looking like for The Phoenix Projects in Guatemala. In just a few days, 14th January, our school in Itzapa opens its doors for its second year of being a legal, fully-ledged school, where we employ ten local teachers, most of whom have been educated by Phoenix these past years. It is incredible that the circle is closing, from abject poverty to working teacher. It proves that it can be done.
Even more exciting is the prospect of Itzapa opening its doors in 2014 to secondary students and our school in Santa María beomcing a legal primary school. The paperwork is all in, the i´s need to be dotted, the t´s crossed! And if this weren't enough, the Christmas Appeal in 2012 has guaranteed daily fruit for the first four months of the year!
And just to add icing to the cake, our sustainable income-generating plans are seeing the first fruits, with our Green Bean crop due to be harvested during January, the profits of which will go towards some project costs - one more step to self-sustainability.
The Massie Family is truly behind The Phoenix Projects and their continued success and work in Guatemala. We welcome all our friends and family to join us in Flying The Phoenix.
