Mi Sangre Foundation maintains a close monitoring of the projects; therefore we would like to share the progress of the “Youth ON LINE for peace” project. This is an initiative supported by Exxonmobil and carried out with young people at Commune 5 in Medellín Colombia.
“Youth ON LINE Project” is an initiative implemented with the objective of developing skills in young leaders, with a high participation of women that contribute to advance their life projects, by training them in technological tools to actively participate as citizens generating their own job opportunities.
Participants of the Project are coordinators and members of different youth groups that use art and cultural expressions like graffiti and hip hop to transform the realities of their own communities. No doubt that the driving force behind all this is their capacity to create.
“Youth ON LINE for peace” project had its first period from May to September 2011; participants strengthened their abilities in Communication for Social Mobilization (different ways of communication through photography, video, audio and blogs), Paloma- Cartonera (methodology that allows an artistic interpretation of different texts to improve citizenship skills), and entrepreneurship.
In September, the young participants proposed continuing with the process in which they could deepen what was learnt in the first period. Therefore, during November, participants have been trained in group moderation, management of power point and Prezi.com to elaborate presentations. They are now preparing a photography exhibition in which they present stories of their neighborhood from a different perspective.
They will go through the different meaningful spaces in their neighborhood and will make a reflection about their own stories. The objective is to generate awareness by understanding the space where they live.
We will keep on monitoring the process and will provide more information soon!
