Tanzanian Students Extend Heartfelt "Thank You!"

Dear AfricAid supporters,

Thank you, once again, for your incredible support of students in Tanzania. By providing textbooks in Tanzanian schools, you are making high-quality educational opportunities available where they previously were not possible!

It is the end of the school year in Tanzania, and students are taking stock of what they have learned this year, and are hoping that they will be able to continue their education at the start of the school year in January. By providing textbooks, you have helped to ensure that they have maximized their opportunities for learning this year, and are likely to pass the national exams that will determine their educational futures.  Thank you for making these vital opportunities possible.

From everyone at AfricAid, and on behalf of the students we support in Tanzania, we would like to extend a heartfelt "ASANTE!" (thank you!) to you during this holiday season. We look forward to continuing to provide learning opportunities to Tanzanian students as they start their new school year in 2011!

With much appreciation,

Ashley Shuyler

Textbooks distributed to two schools!

Dear friends,

I am happy to have the opportunity to write you this quarterly update. In the past three months, your contributions have created important educational opportunities for students in Tanzania. With the support you have provided, AfricAid was able to distribute textbooks at two schools, serving over 1,000 students in northern Tanzania.

The first set of textbooks was provided at Upendo English Medium Primary School in Usa River, Tanzania, a school that is teaching elementary students English to best prepare them for future educational and professional success. The students couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to learn English from textbooks! Please visit here for more information about Upendo: http://africaid.com/?page_id=30.

The second set of textbooks was provided at Losinoni Primary School in a rural Maasai Village in Tanzania. Very few students in this community have had the opportunity to learn from textbooks before, and with your support, they have been able to hold and own their very first copies of textbooks. Thank you for making this possible! You can read more information here about Losinoni: http://africaid.com/blog/?page_id=25.

I'd like to invite you to help us reach our goals by the end of this month, as students return from holiday in Tanzania. Please post the following link to your Facebook page, or send it by email, encouraging your friends to get involved in changing lives in Tanzania! http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/tanzaniantextbooks/

Thank you for making vital educational opportunities possible for these young students!

Textbooks making a difference for rural students!

Dear friends,

I am writing to thank you for your support of our work, and for providing textbooks for students in Tanzania. Your support is truly making a difference in the lives of students in the most rural and needy parts of Tanzania!

Recently, I had the chance to visit one of AfricAid's partner schools in a rural Maasai village, called Losinoni Primary School. We made a contribution of textbooks at this school, and the head of school and students could not be more grateful. Now, the students do not have to share one book per classroom. Rather, pairs of students have the opportunity to read and use textbooks together, vastly improving their learning abilities and providing a significantly higher level of education!

In fact, at Losinoni Primary School, we received some very exciting news. The head of of school told us that, in 2003, when we first starting working at the school, only 13 of the 65 7th-year students went on to high school. Now in 2010, a total of 64 out of 65 students went on to high school -- almost unheard of in Tanzania, but especially in a remote community like Losinoni! The entire community is so proud of their school and their students, and they attribute this new success to the improvements made at the school through books, new classrooms, and the school lunch program -- all provided by AfricAid.

Thank you so much for being a part of making this possible! You are truly giving students in Tanzania new and priceless opportunities through your support.

With much appreciation, Ashley Shuyler Founder and Executive Director AfricAid
