For many young girls in Pakistan, life is a struggle with multiple barriers and obstacles. Poverty, cultural constraints, and an inadequate supply of resources hinder progress for development. Girls are less likely to reach their full potential or capacity. This project will provide 5,500 girls with education, healthcare, and access to resources that will improve their lives. HDF's holistic model empowers a girl to stand up for herself... to have a voice... to be a leader in her community.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
There are over 32 million girls under the age of 14 in Pakistan. 2/3 of these girls are out of school. Most of these girls live in rural areas and in extreme poverty. Factors such as gender, poverty, cultural constraints, and location affect a girl's education chances. In many cases, poor families pull daughters from school out of fear for their safety. The battle for gender equality in Pakistan has been a long drawn struggle in regions where girls' education is threatened by the Taliban.
How will this project solve this problem?
HDF proactively addresses a myriad of issues by providing comprehensive services for girls & their families. Our work goes beyond the classroom: we create programs in areas that lack education and health services. We launch student enrollment campaigns and mobilize communities to support primary and secondary education. This project will provide girls from the poorest households the opportunities & resources to attend school and break away from the cycle of poverty and oppression.
Potential Long Term Impact
Across Pakistan, girls face many challenges: HDF envisions the future of Pakistan's girls to be healthy, literate, and aware of their rights and leadership capabilities. Our goal is to help them transform their lives and their communities by providing them the skills for self-efficacy and autonomy. Investing in girls' education is the most effective global solution to eliminate gender disparity.
