This month in Nicaragua we focused on developing our classes and making them more interesting.
Firstly, the La Thompson school band was formed! Using old tins and paint-pots we are introducing music, slowly but surely. The aim in the coming months is to build up a variety of musical instruments for the kids so that they can incorporate it into their learning.
We also welcomed a new teacher to our staff on the ground in La Thompson. Fabiola Cornejo studies International Relations at University and helps out with the younger classes voluntarily because she wants to help the children and do her part, as a Nicaraguan.
Finally, instead of just talking about the dangers of rain damage the children took a school trip to see landslides and flooding and their effects on the land. They were taught ways to prevent damage and prepare for rainy season as well as what to do in an emergency.
Good education is absolutely vital for the development of the children and their families. Thanks to you and your continued support through donations we can keep improving the livelihoods of these communities!
Next Wednesday, June 12, from 9am GlobalGiving is matching all donations to us at 50%. This means a donation of $10 would become $15 thanks to GlobalGiving. This is a fabulous opportunity for you to make your donation even BIGGER and have a BIGGER impact. I’ll send you a reminder just as the match funding starts but please, do consider making a donation that will give more than you expected!
Project Reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
