This six-month project will improve the lives of 90 people living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya. 12 local HIV+ facilitators will be trained to deliver a tried and tested programme of guidance and support.
There are 1.42m people living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya. The project focuses on six HIV+ support groups in the Coastal region of Kenya where the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is third highest in the country (8.1%) and where significant gaps exist in the support HIV+ people need. The project will address the challenges brought by living with HIV/AIDS, the consequences this has on people's status and acceptance in society, and their own confidence and their ability to live a quality life.
This project will train 12 HIV+ facilitators to take the 90 participants through seven 2-hour sessions, deepening their understanding of their situation, identifying challenges and practical ways to address them, and linking them to local support
The project will improve the lives of 90 people living with HIV/AIDS and impact positively on their families and communities. It will link them to other organisations for ongoing support and develop facilitators and leaders for more similar projects.
