Summary
Karing for Kids Nepal operates a Mother and Child Health Clinic (MCH-Clinic) in the mountain communities of Rasuwa, Nepal. This project will establish a basic medical laboratory within the clinic.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The MCH-Clinic provides basic medical services to 7,000 people in the remote Tamang villages of Gatlang, Goljung, and Chilime. These communities suffer from health problems associated with crippling poverty, such as diarrhea, worm infestation, malnutrition, acute respiratory infections, and tuberculosis. A basic medical lab would have a significant positive impact on our ability to more accurately diagnose and treat these common ailments.
How will this project solve this problem?
Renovate the facility (ceiling, walls, floor, and lighting), acquire furniture, equipment, and supplies, install the new equipment, support annual costs for one year
Potential Long Term Impact
Significantly enchanced capacity to serve critical health needs, exams (blood, urine, stool, acid-fast bacillus, pregnancy, etc.), diagnosis (gastro-intestinal, anemia, kidney problems, diabetes), treatment (medicinal & educational)
Project Message
In the entire Rasuwa district, population 140,000, there are no laboratory services. Accuracy in diagnosing illness will increase a thousand-fold with these basic lab services.
