Map of MAIZE PRODUCTION Maize is the staple food in the most areas of Kenya. It is also important food for livestock production. It is also processed in industries to produce oil and starch. Its produced in small scale and large scale farms. In Nakuru, maize is grown fro food and as a cash crop. where there is drought, maize can do well because it is drought resistant. In Nakuru, residents were lucky because the government started a program in which they help farmers with machinery, seeds and this leads to high yield and development of the town. Read more.

Tea is grown in large scale and considered the second largest producer of tea after kericho. Even with these large production, many farmers still languish in poverty simply because because tea is sold at a very cheap price to the nearby factory which later sell at a very large profit margin. they therefore need some education and sensitization on world of local prices of the commodity and their sights and obligations to the factory and farmers union for them to have a fair share of their sweat. Demand is low and the longer they stay, the higher the chances of going bad. He said logistics of transporting handling and packging of fresh produce contributes to losses.Had he sold the fruits within first one and a half weeks , the profit margins would be sh.40,000 with the curren state profits will shrink to less than bh.15,000. I grow banana on my farm and now since i went through a training on how to improve and produce the best.It has now made ,me improve market access and am doing very well.I have grown because of this group and even though the support i get from this group.
