Better Agriculture Practices

By a female, 16-21 years old, in Kaimosi, Kenya
Map of BETTER AGRICULTURE PRACTICES Agriculture is mostly relied upon by many people in my community, cheptulu.People struggle to get best quality produce and benefit from their sweat.Due to climate change, agriculture has been greatly undermined in my community.Inadequate and unreliable rainy seasons compounds the whole situation not forgetting pests and diseases which oftenly attack their crops. Being reasonable enough and willing to help the farmers, the National Cereals and Produce Board have come up with drought resistant crops which can withstand low amounts of rainfall hence improving agriculture. The board has introduced quality cereals and fertilizers and also subsidized the prices so that each and every farmer can afford them. The National Cereals and Produce Board has also set up development programs that educate farmers on the methods of farming and control of pests and diseases. This move has led to the improvement of agriculture in our community and hence stabalizing the population. standards of living have been improved since people can afford their daily bread and cater for their families adequately hence security also improving. Long time ago used to plant indiginious bananas bt due Namaji Self Help Group i would get a highbrid seed that would give a high yield harvest. Since started my farming long time ago i had no fund and seeds bt when Namatsi self help group came i was the first person to ask for assistance now my small farm can assist me to boost my daily bread and some to school fees for my daughter and provide job opportunity for the jobless youths in the society. My farm provides alot of high yield product but most of the customers asks for more but the problem is that the lands is too small for accomodation of many bananas thus bringing my products low in terms of production and then sales.
