Happy Spring from kids at Children's Hematology

Children's art on display at the Department

Dear friends, thank you for your continued support for children at the Children's Hematology Department at the Institute of Oncology in Chisinau. At this time, the Department is assisting about 25 children. In the near future (likely, next month), we will be purchasing another series of medical equipment and supplies. The exact specification and quantity of medical equipment are to be determined and advised by the Department's specialists. From the beginning of this year, you donated $700 - this money will be used towards equipment purchase.

March is the special month in Moldova. Traditionally known as celebration of Martisor, this is the time when people are renewing hopes for healthy and prosperous life without pain and suffering. Our children patients at the Hematology Department took part in celebration and drew pictures on the occasion of the coming spring. Pictured here is the board at the Children's Hematology displaying cheerful art. From all our children and our team at Save Life, we wish you a Happy Spring and thank you once again for your great commitment and support!

The year 2013 has been a tremendous kick start year to our project. Thanks to your support, we were able to upgrade the Children's Hematology Department at the Institute of Oncology in Chisinau with so much needed medical equipment.

As we have previously communicated, in the first quarters of the year, we bought two infusion pumps (infusomats) and the vital signs monitor. This equipment is paramount in the treatment of cancers in children as it allows to administer the medicine in a controlled and economic way, as well as to control blood pressure and temperature before and after operations. In addition to infusion pumps and vital signs monitor, in August - October we bought:

1. Infusomat transfusion lines (323 units per 30-35 children patients);

2. Sterifix infusion filters (200 units per 30 children patients);

3. Vasofix intravenous catheters (200 units per 32 children patients);

4. Discofix systems for infusion therapy and monitoring (200 units per 20-27 children patients);

5. Perfusor syringes, sterile dressings and other accessories.

This equipment will let our doctors continue doing a truly amazing work and help our little patients feel their hospital stay less stressful. It is our heartfelt wish and strive to see these children healthy!

As we approach the end of the year, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your generosity and hope that you will remain our supporters in 2014. We wish you bright and healthy holidays and a happy new year!

New equipment for the Children's Hematology

Thanks to your support, we continued assisting Children’s Hematology department at the Institute of Oncology in Chisinau. In July we made another purchase of medical equipment and supplies in amount of 56,198 Leu ($4,500). Among the other items, the Children’s Hematology received the monitor V100 specifically designed for patients who require vital signs measurements. The monitor will be used to control children's blood pressure, temperature and other vital signs before and after operations. This is a critical equipment as it helps make accurate and consistent measurements even on children with low or unstable perfusion pressures.

Due to our continuous involvement in the community, we can attract more attention to the cause. In April we held the large community event which we called the March of Light. Participants, each carrying balloons of different colour, got together for an evening walk in Valea Morilor Park in Chisinau, Moldovan capital.

Volunteer at March of Light

Our goal was to show solidarity with people living with cancer and in memory of those who lost their lives. The walk was a warm and beautiful event. About 4000 people participated. We raised 125,450 Leu ($10,035) and were able to purchase two important medical devices for blood analysis and transfusions. In the video below [in Romanian] you will see episodes from the March of Light and medical equipment that we donated to the Children's Hematology together with Moldcell Company, our partner.

We thank you for your continuous support! Each new equipment, medical device or parts make huge impact on the Children’s Hematology department and mean true difference in the lives of children.

New equipment for the Children's Hematology

New equipment
New equipment

Dear supporters, we have continued serving needs of the Children’s Hematology Department at the Oncology Department in Chisinau, Moldovan capital. In addition to so much needed infusion pumps, we have purchased large quantity of peripheral equipment such as catheters, perfusion tubes, syringes, antibacterial filters, and etc. This equipment will ensure pervasive usage of the previously bought infusion pumps which will lead to better practices and elevated children’s safety. All equipment was produced by B. Braun Medical Inc., a global leader in infusion therapy and pain management.

Since the time of opening of our project, we had to re-examine our goals and mission. Due to increased support in funding for medication procurement from the part of the state, we switched our focus to the wider needs. Our assistance will not be limited by purchases of medicines, but will include medical equipment such as described, devices and accessories, and even smaller things that will prevent department from functioning efficiently and, on the other hand, can contribute to making children’s stay in hospital wards less painful and traumatic. We thank you for your ongoing support!

Save Life to purchase medical equipment

Dear friends,

Thank you for supporting our project throughout the Winter 2012 Global Open Challenge and helping us raise funds for the Children’s Hematology Department at the Institute of Oncology in Chisinau, Moldovan capital. We are excited to share good news with you. Thanks to your support, we were able to purchase two infusion pumps, 300 extension and 100 transfusion sets to serve department's needs.

Infusion pumps

Infusion pumps are essential in cancer therapy especially in treatment of young patients where precise dosage and consistent injection are required over long period of time. The pumps significantly reduce the risk of side effects and complications. The usage of the pumps also frees mothers of young patients who otherwise would sit with their children and control injection process through a standard dropping bottle.

New equipment was delivered to the Children’s Hematology Department and has already been put in function. The department’s staff has asked us to thank all supporters and we are happy to do so! Thank you so much and we hope on your continuous support while we keep serving Moldovan children with oncological diagnoses and their families.
