Summary
Moldova is a small country that only begins to adapt advanced oncological protocols. Many cancer drugs used in these protocols are not produced locally and need to be imported from other countries. Our project will bring life-saving medicines and medical equipment to Moldovan children with cancer.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Most of Moldovan children receive treatment at the state-run clinics. These clinics, however, face bigger shortages in medicines and medical equipment due to budget constraints. Too often, parents of sick children are forced to look for medicines on their own - which, in many cases, is extremely expensive or beyond the reach. The advanced medical equipment is also in a greater need.
How will this project solve this problem?
We aim to fill the gap. NGO Save Life has partnered with the National Institute of Oncology in Moldovan capital of Chisinau, to facilitate purchases of medicines and medical equipment. Specific to this project, we are planning to order 130 vials of an essential medicine used in leukemia treatment. If we are successful, we will roll this project over and convert to a long-term program which will include wider support of pediatric departments.
Potential Long Term Impact
Our project is targeting systemic problems of the state-run medical facilities. We are attempting to create a long-term support, rather than seeking for a temporary solution. About 30 children from different parts of Moldova receive treatment at the Children Hematology Department on a daily basis. Your support will give them chance of recovery and faster reintegration to their communities.
Project Message
