Enable the families of San Miguel, Chiapas, Mexico, to increase their incomes through agricultural training, an animal husbandry (sheep) project, and a women’s weaving and handicraft project.
The Agros Development Model meets a community where it is. The San Miguel families have been granted land by the government, but still lack the overall holistic development that is characteristic of Agros’ vision. Thus, initial projects focus on improving agricultural production & environmental practices, including animal husbandry, soil conservation, & crop diversification. Further training focuses on small-business development & budgets. $242 allows 1 family to participate in such projects.
All families will receive agricultural training (crop diversification, organic methods, business, etc.). 10 families will be trained in animal husbandry to buy & raise sheep; 25 women will be trained in different weaving styles & to increase salaries
The San Miguel families will increase their incomes, become better stewards of their land, and become a self-sustaining community, ultimately changing their children’s uncertain future into one of great promise.
