Until the project set up creches and pre-school facilities, infants and children had to spend all day in the toxic enclosed atmosphere of the factories, which gave them bad health and kept them out of education. Many would start helping their mothers as soon as they are big enough.

Without the project these children would not have been able to play with such toys as their parents, earning around $1.50 a day, would not be able to afford them.
