Report on Supporting Human Trafficking Survivors in Romania - December 2013

We’re happy to say that we are currently working with 14 survivors in the counties of Cluj and Alba in Northwest Romania and one survivor from another region of Romania, in collaboration with the local authorities. We have partnered closely with the National Agency against Human Trafficking in order to find the best solutions for our beneficiaries and their problems. We have also strengthened our partnership with the Child Protection Services, in order to be able to offer more support to the underaged survivors.  We have worked closely with the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism in survival assistance in hearings and in court. We have also found a teacher willing to work as a tutor for the girls and we hired her part time in order for her to develop literacy programs for our survivors and a psychologist.  We feel very privileged for the opportunity to walk alongside these survivors step by step in their rehabilitation and reintegration process.

Some highlights of the previous reporting period are as follows:

  • 3 of the beneficiaries have sought legal assistance
  • 1 survivor has been repatriated from the country where she was exploited
  • 1 survivor has been transported to  shelter
  • 4 survivors received psychological counseling in dealing with their trauma
  • 2 survivors have been helped to start their own venture, receiving support and counseling
  • 2 survivors benefited from literacy classes
  • 2 survivors, as well as other 2 vulnerable girls have been offered working opportunities
  • We have started a mentoring program, with the help of HERA Foundation UK, released on October 18th, in order to involve the community in the process of rehabilitating and reintegrating the survivors, as well as helping the vulnerable people

Thank you so much for all of your support. Each and every one of you is an integral part of the team working to help our survivor community access justice and claim their human rights.

If you’d like to continue regularly supporting this program, we encourage you to utilize the recurring donation option on our global giving project page. You’re monthly support would be very much appreciated. Engaging in human trafficking issues is extremely important, either in your own community or here in Romania.
