The local community and SELF RELIANCE PROMOTERS NGO (SeReP) and local philanthropic groups are struggling to construct a small water supply project. The purpose of the project is to primarily support the health centre in Tsenla-Kikaykela'ki, the village primary schools and secondary schools, as a way forward to fight against cholera and other water related diseases, which come as a result of the absence of untreated water. Finally, to reduce distance of fetching clean water.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
This village is endangered by cholera and other water related diseases because of lack of pipe born water. The village has a population of about 2700. The village has three Primary schools, one Secondary school, One health centre and three Churches. All these institutions beside the entire populations are really in a big problem of lack of portable drinking water.
How will this project solve this problem?
If we support this village to complete the Catchment which they started working on it and then tap water from there and build a tank so that water can be distributed to various quarters and also to these institutions indicated above, we will be freed from all Water related diseases because the water connected to the Tank will constantly be treated for use by all. We will also ensure that the catchment is well protected and the scheme sustainably managed to continue saving the community.
Potential Long Term Impact
This project will sustainably provide clean water to the entire community and equally fight against all water related diseases in the village. It will also give the villagers the responsibility to train members of community on water management skills. The committee members will also have the advantage of working as a team. Children and elders will not more be fighting with animals to carry water from dirty and unprotected spring sources especially during the dry seasons.
