Summary

Provide free eye care in LRBT’s eye hospital in Mansehra. From Nov 2005 to July 31, 2008, 142,565 outpatient procedures and 13,999 major & minor surgeries were performed absolutely free of cost.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Mansehra hospital would cater to eye care needs of a population of over 2.4 million comprising catchment areas of Batgram, Muzaffarabad, Abbotabad and Azad Kashmir. Estimated number of beneficiaries visiting OPD 200 per day 60,000 per annum Estimated number of beneficiaries for cataract surgery 40 per day 9,600 per annum This will benefit a large number of patients whose precarious situation & struggle for survival has been aggravated by the October 2005 earthquake.

How will this project solve this problem?

The hospital will provide diagnostic and curative eyecare needs of patients for: •Refractive Errors •Cataract •Glaucoma •Trachoma •Trauma •Lachrymal and Squint Surgery.

Potential Long Term Impact

Prevention of Blindness & restoration of sight to blind patients reducing dependence & converting them into productive members of a community which has been shattered by the earthquake
