Latest Update from Agros' Nuevo Amanecer
By Shannon Gallagher | Annual Campaign Manager
Friends of Agros,
Thank you for your continued support of Agros villages like Nuevo Amanecer!
This quarter the families in Nuevo Amanecer planted fifteen acres of plantains, their main income-generating crop. Each family manages a 0.8 acre parcel of plantains in different stages of development using credit through Agros to increase production. About five acres were harvested and are being sold in the local market, including 40,000 pounds of high-quality plantains. Everyone has been able to repay the project’s loans from the harvest’s profits.

Thank you for your continued support of Agros villages like Nuevo Amanecer!
Attached, you can can read more about the community’s development in the attached Winter '10 update for the Agros village of Nuevo Amanecer. Or feel free to read it directly from our village page at http://www.agros.org/ag/villagepdfs/nuevoamanecer.pdf This report measures the success and outcomes of a village's development looking at Community Organization, Land Ownership, Housing and Infrastructure, Community Education and Training, and Sustainable Economic Growth. It's exciting to see that the village is cultivating 5 different income-generating crops with 70% of families involved in the commercialization!
As we are near meeting our goal for this project, I wanted to remind you that on Tuesday, March 16th GlobalGiving will hold a 'BONUS MATCHING DAY' to match all donations at 30%, up to $1,000 per donor per project on that day.
We hope you'll consider taking advantage of this opportunity to support the completion of this project, or perhaps consider supporting our newest project launched in Honduras: Irrigation Water Project in Bella Vista! This project includes the build of one 20,000 gallon tank and the laying of tubing/piping for 19 acres of irrigation to benefit thirty-six (36) families in the village for a solid water source for both communal and individual family crops. Latest Update from Agros' Nuevo Amanecer
By Shannon Gallagher | Nuevo Amanecer Autumn '09
Friends of Agros,
Thank you so much for your continued support of Agros villages like Nuevo Amanecer! Last quarter the villagers focused on ensuring food security by planting 33.5 acres of corn and 0.3 acres of beans using new, environmentally-friendly techniques.
Well, the harvest is in! From the 33.5 acres of corn harvested, the families had enough corn left over to sell in the market, providing a source of income for the families. The families were so encouraged by this success; they have also started a plantain growing project to further ensure food security for their village.
