Of all the tragedies faced in life, the death of a child is the most difficult to deal with and as such is an area where society is least equipped to manage - Rainbow Trust is there to help.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The pressures on a family with a terminally ill child are extreme. Siblings often feel left out and neglected as the attention of their parents, family and friends focuses on their sick brother or sister. They often believe they have done something bad to cause this imbalance and feel frightened about what is happening around them and of what the future holds. They can become angry, withdrawn and resentful and school work can be severely disrupted.
How will this project solve this problem?
Rainbow Trust's regional Family Support Workers provide bespoke care to all family members in their own homes through diagnosis, treatment and beyond bereavement ensuring they have someone to rely on at all times, as long as is necessary.
Potential Long Term Impact
Rainbow Trust provides emotional and practical support to 1,000 families per year - supporting not just the sick child but also the healthy siblings, parents, carers and extended family members.
