More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Land is a precious commodity throughout the world. Disenfranchised rural families lack access to the kind of credit needed to buy their own land. Trapped in a cycle of basic survival, they pay exorbitant rents for poor quality land or work for desperately low wages as migrant laborers. Agros restores hope and opportunity for such families by purchasing farmland, providing agricultural training, and much more. Families pay back the cost of the land, proudly earning right to its title.

Activities

Your help enables future Agros families to: raise and sell crops and animals; learn skills to increase incomes; gain access to potable water; build and grow their own businesses; and experience God’s blessing in their lives and relationships.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

The Agros model works to ensure economic, environmental, organizational, and social sustainability. Sustainability is not only key for the villagers themselves but for the long-term and integrated approach that addresses these issues.

Project Message

We desire that our children…have a quality education, good health, and, as we pay off the land through Agros, that they would have a place to live & farm. This is the future we want for our childre

Update: Agros' Sustainability for El Salvadoran Farmers Project

By Shannon Gallagher - San Diego de Tenango Autumn Update '09, January 27, 2010 03:34 PM

Friends of Agros,

Thank you so much for your continued support of Agros villages like San Diego de Tenango!

The chicken project started last quarter by six families is doing well. They are currently producing 200 chickens every six weeks to sell. This project has done so well that six other families have joined the project designated to provide food security to the community through consumption and sale of the eggs and chickens.

Read more about the community's development in the attached Autumn update for the Agros village of San Diego de Tenango. If you prefer instead, you can read the report directly from the village page on our site at: http://www.agros.org/ag/villagepdfs/sandiego.pdf This report measures the success and outcomes of a village's development looking at Community Organization, Land Ownership, Housing and Infrastructure, Community Education and Training, and Sustainable Economic Growth.

Please submit any feedback you might have and let us know if you find these reports valuable, or what other kinds of information you might like to receive from us as relates to this project.
