CAMP IMANI wishes to expand activities and trips in our free camp for 120 inner-city children ages 5- 12. Children attend 5 days a week and have access to an amazing assortment of fun filled activities in an enriching, secure environment. Many of the Campers come from low-income families who can't afford the expense of summer camp. All children deserve to play, build friendships and learn new skills. Campers will participate in athletics, performing arts, music, gardening, trips and so much more
With Summer Day Camps costing over $800 a week, children of low-income families often spend their summers in front of a TV, video games or on the streets. Elementary age children suffer most, as working parents keep them indoors and they miss opportunities to expand their out-of-school experiences, enjoy friends and learn to work in groups. Access to expensive programs such as performing arts, karate, fencing, gardening, and Steel Pan Band are not affordable & often unavailable in their schools.
CAMP IMANI will offer 7 weeks of free day camp activities to 120 children in order to improve their chances for academic success and increase self-esteem. Campers will have access to summer experiences that many wealthy children take for granted. Instead of sitting at home they will be able to spend their summer making friends, exploring science and the world around them, getting tutoring if needed, and learning new and engaging skills in music, dance, and more from our professional instructors
Studies have shown that a happy child is more likely to succeed, have high self-esteem, develop their leadership abilities and be more willing to help others. By sharing in arts & recreational activities at our Camp, children will perform better in school and develop a strong sense of community that will positively contribute to their home lives and strengthen their interactions with others. CAMP IMANI believes that all children can succeed if given access to appropriate skills and opportunities
