Since January 2012, families have been fleeing violence in Mali, seeking refuge in neighboring countries such as Niger. Along with food insecurity and years of drought, the refugee population is expected to grow as violence continues to push Malians across the border. Relief International is providing urgent and long-term needs with special attention to women and female-headed households with children.
Due to the crisis in Mali, thousands of families have flooded into neighboring Niger. In the Northern Tahoua region camps, there are at least 15,000 refugees who remain in desperate need of assistance.
Relief International is responding to the urgent needs of displaced Malian women and their families in the Northern Tahoua camps by providing emergency shelter and improving health and hygiene services. RI is rebuilding livelihoods by providing livestock assets such as goats to improve food security, and grants and training to support women in revenue generating activities.
By providing urgent needs in health, hygiene, and shelter to refugees in the Tahoua camps, Relief International is saving the lives of those families still in dire need. By providing livestock assets and grants to women, RI is equipping women with the tools to participate in income generating activities so that they are empowered to rebuild their livelihoods for the long term.
