Thank you - an update from the field
By - Steven Murdoch - Project Manager
Having just returned from India I am pleased to report that this project continues to give much needed support to women who are experiencing caste discrimination, sexual harassment and domestic violence. By - Dryan Kitchener - 'Untouchable' Village Women Combat Exploitation

Julie Drolma These personal stories of individual women help illustrate the daily dangers faced by poor, marginalized women and highlight the importance of trained advocates to change the response to these terrible events. Brave sisters, our hearts are with you!

An example of how the project helps with cases of domestic violence…
By - Dryan Kitchener - Dowry Menace – Nasreen’s story
This is a case of torture and harassment of a recently married girl, Shaikh Nasreen. Nasreen got married at the age of 19 in 2005. Her father gave Rs. 15,000 cash ($380) as a dowry, jewelry and household items worth $1000 as a gift. After her marriage she continued studying and got a first class mark in her 10th...

shelly it is a shame that men like that roam the streets of India ...the institution of dowry has been able to survive in India primarily because of the lack of education, poverty and the general idea that a woman is lesser than a man and so her parents have to literally buy her a life ny giving money to her husband

mcotter It is so sad to hear of women being abused but if more people knew that these horrible things were going on in the world more people would be protesting and trying to help. It amazes me when I talk to people that don't know things like this go on in the world. Women need a stronger voice. We need more Flying Squads.
