Rwandan girls who did not gain a chance to continue their studies gain professional training which enables them access to employment and income generation activities in order to raise living standards in families and gain education on sexual reproductive health,family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Population of Rwanda :10.3 million where the % of the population aged less than 15 is 43.6% whereas the population less than 25 years of age is equal to 63%. girls face a great number of challenges,which compromises their future,hinders their growth and Though 97.5% of Rwandan girls attend primary school, only 2.8% percent graduate from secondary school.These challenges result to low education attendance for girls,poverty,unemployment and sex workers practices.
How will this project solve this problem?
The project introduces the education of gender,sexual reproductive health,family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention and this is followed by career counseling, small business management/entrepreneurship training to facilitate self-employment and income generation activities though creation of cooperatives of girls to enable them to become future women entrepreneurs of Rwanda.The project creates a conducive environment that advocates for self employment and helps to meet girls' basic needs.
Potential Long Term Impact
Professional training, accessibility to employment and income generating activities are focused on while creating a cooperative of 30 girls.More income for women translates into improved child nutrition, health, and education, which in turn has a powerful impact on families and communities. Increased Capacity of women and girls especially to participate in socioeconomic development processes to facilitate access to same opportunities for young girls and boys,empower them to express themselves .
