Summary

Solid Rock Association is a non-governmental/non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of folk arts and culture, is in partnership with the center for national culture in Ghana to train 100 youth in the under-served communities in Ghana. The youth will be trained in traditional folk music and dance by a way of promoting and preserving intangible cultural heritage in Ghana.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Folk music and dance is part of everyday life in Ghanaian communities, but due to lack of training and access to training centers for skill development, the youth are unable to explore and take advantage by developing skills in traditional music and dance thereby, promoting and preserving intangible cultural heritage. Due to this Solid Rock Association in 2011 established a TRAIN POINT for youth at-risk in traditional folk music and dance in the communities we work.

How will this project solve this problem?

This project will promote positive self-expression, team work, critical thinking skills and how to develop their artistic talents.Solid Rock Association is giving the youth a sense of self empowerment to explore opportunities in the creative industry as well as preparing them for job readiness.

Potential Long Term Impact

The initiative which is expected to benefit 100 youth is currently ongoing and is directed to impact positively in curbing steeling, armed robbery, drug abuse and other social vices, which is mainly orchestrated by young people and youths between the ages of 10-24 years.
