Wigs 4 Kids reaches out to kids and young adults with hair loss by providing custom-fitted, age-appropriate wigs, indivudally cut and styled for that child at no cost to the kids or their families. This program is available to any Michigan child or teen through age 18 experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatments or various other appearance related challenges that cause hair loss such as: alopecia, trichotillomania, lupus, hydrocephalus, burns and other disorders.
Wigs 4 Kids focuses on young people with hair loss challenges due to: cancer treatments, alopecia, trichotillomania, lupus, hydrocephalus, burns and other disorders. Children with these illness already struggle to deal with social acceptance because of physical appearance. As well, as their families struggling with the financial burdens of the illnesses themselves.
By providing age appropriate wigs at no cost whatsoever to kids and their families, Wigs 4 Kids not only helps kids deal with appearance related issues and social acceptance, which are so critical to young adults and children throughout their illness. But. in addition, with illnesses that can often span multiple years for an individual child, Wigs 4 Kids helps to reduce the financial burden of multiple wigs by providing those wigs and services at no cost to children or their families.
Comparing the wigs and associated services provided by Wigs 4 Kids in 2010, the need for wigs and our services increased incredibly, by approximately 250% over 2010 in 2011 alone. With local hospitals increasing their patient referalls to Wigs 4 Kids, we are projecting an even greater demand of our services in 2012. This project will assist in funding 5 wigs ($800 each) for 5 Michigan children in need in 2012.
