Kasr Al Aini Project Progress Report.
Dear Donors and friends of the project,
Please find below a project update for the undergoing medical imaging initiative at Kasr Al Aini Teaching Hospital, Cairo, Egypt. We thank all of those who contributed towards the cause and hopeful that we would have met your expectations with the progress that has been achieved thus far.
Medical Imaging System (PACS):
All of the computer equipment that has been donated by the US healthcare institutions has been shipped the fourth quarter of 2012 and cleared by Egyptian customs authorities the later part of December 2012. The onsite project volunteers have started assembling the hardware and installing it at the different locations of the department. The volunteers, mainly medical doctor’s part of the clinical staff, have worked on the many components of the project from documentation to customs clearing and currently the phase of deployment.
The donated hardware includes computer workstations, medical grade displays, x-ray film digitizer as well as an overhead projector for medical conferences
Once installed the medical imaging solution would help all radiologists to make a faster and more accurate diagnosis for the acquired studies as well as a comparison with prior studies if available all of which are major enhancements to the diagnosis of patients within the department and reporting to clinical body such findings for further treatment steps. The operating costs for the department would be dramatically once the printed films are no longer needed. Such technology is being used worldwide at the large institutions to allow for immediate image access to all of the imaging studies. This would be a later stage of the project in 2013 and the following years.
Imaging modalities are expected to send images to the imaging solution would be CR, CT and MRI for the first stage of implementation following by other imaging modalities at later stages.
Medical Supplies Donation Program:
The MSDP has collected a total of 24 boxes of medical supplies that have been donated by the medical centers located in the New York Metropolitan area. The medical supplies shall serve the clinical needs for a number of departments within the medical center. From Interventional radiology to general surgery and urology there are ample supplies to help with surgical procedures not possible to have happened without the supplies.
Examples of the items would be angiographic guide-wires, catheters, cardiac stents, hernia stents, sutures and many other miscellaneous surgical items. The donated items would significantly reduce the cost of such operations to the patients who wouldn’t afford the cost of the procedure otherwise.
We shall keep you updated with the progress of the project as more milestones are achieved.
We are looking forward to completing this stage of the project and moving forward to the next one forward.
