With the support of participants in the Summer Arts at Mill River Playground Project on Global Giving, we had a fantastic summer. We kicked off the summer with our annual Birthday Party celebration for the playground featuring face painters, balloon artists and a performance by the Suzy Shelton Band. This was followed by weekly fun Saturday Morning performances in the playground. This year we had an exciting line up including a puppet show, an all woman Mariachi band and perennial favorites Hip Hop Dimensions and Boogie Chillun - two youth focused performance groups.
We were very happy to add family movie nights to our summer program lineup this year. On the 3rd Tuesday night in July and August we presented films on the lawn in the playground. The first film - Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked was chosen by students from a local school. The second film The Lorax was chosen by the staff for its message. The program was very well received by parents who are anxious to learn about next summer's offerings.
