The Summer Arts Camp provides 8 weeks of fun, education and friendship to disadvantaged children. Discipline and accomplishment builds self esteem .
Summer break is too quiet for 75 orphaned children living within the walled compounds of the city orphanage and an AIDS hospice. There are few opportunities for outings so Summer Arts Camp provides a happy exposure to Cambodia’s culture while building self esteem through dance. Camp also provides a daily snack. Senior students from Apsara Arts school, themselves from disadvantaged backgrounds, work as apprentice teachers and serve as role models.
Students learn the basic steps and stories of traditional dances and music. At mid-term students get to demonstrate their achievements. Their final assessment at 8 weeks is combined with stage performance, party and certificate of completion.
The Summer Arts Camp provides 8 weeks of fun, education and friendship to disadvantaged children. Camp discipline and accomplishment builds self esteem and allows these children to be better prepared for adult life.
Today's students may become tomorrow's teachers.
