Sponsor the homeless to get off the streets

I struggled with a drug habit for twenty years and was in prison in 1995. When I got out, a generous Christian couple gave me a place to live and I pursued and received a BA in Public Administration. In 2005 I got a job as the apartment building manager. Unfortunately, there was a corporate restructuring and I lost the job. I became homeless but kept working on my Masters at shelters. Finally, in 2006, I got a unit in the Opportunity Center and with the help of DST, I completed my Masters.

I had a good life with a job, car and apartment. However, when I relapsed into substance abuse, I lost all of them in 6 months. I joined the DST after learning about it from some people at the shelter. Working for DST helped me to rebuild my self-esteem and the Success Team meetings helped prepare me for my job search. They created a real good resume, and grilled me in mock interviews! I got a job with Next Step Center and now my life is back!
