It is estimated there are 100 million street children across the world yet it is still a challenge to get policy makers to recognize these children exist, let alone that street children themselves should play a key role in informing the level and type of support they receive. The Consortium for Street Children brings together global policy and grassroots action to inform and support each other.
Street children across the globe are alone, neglected and at high risk of abuse. For every child supported to come off the street, another two go onto it. Policy makers at the highest level still have a long way to go to recognize and understand the complex issues surrounding street children. Governments must ensure that changes are made that not only improve the lives of street children but are also sustainable.
CSC helps realize the rights of street children by working with governments, NGOs, academics and the wider public to make long-term changes in policy and action.
We want ALL of the 100 million street children worldwide to have their rights realized as laid out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, including the right to health, education and protection.
