The WHO has identified childhood obesity on a devastating incline in developing countries. One of the main reasons is the lack of sports equipment and ability to play sports for these children. GloBall Giving is reaching out to orphanages and schools and helping provide new and gently used soccer, basketball and baseball equipment, uniforms, shoes, etc. We are working with clubs, individuals and companies to help provide this equipment to deserving children. Everyone deserves the chance to play.
In 2010 the number of overweight children under the age of five, is estimated to be over 42 million. Close to 35 million of these are living in developing countries. Overweight and obese children are likely to stay obese into adulthood and more likely to develop noncommunicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Overweight and obesity, as well as their related diseases, are largely preventable through exercise, diet and education. In many countries these options do not exist.
By providing exercise equipment, coaching training and diet education, we are helping fill the void that often goes overlooked in these communities. If there is no equipment, often times the children do not play. We are also helping with recycling efforts by "up"-using equipment that would most likely end up in landfills.
Millions of dollars are wasted on preventable treatments like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In addtion, we are adding to the overall capacity to lead a fruitful life for these underprivileged yet deserving children. We will be also helping out the community economically in the future by bolstering the health of their young individuals.
