Summary
On a recent Saturday morning, 162 families lined up outside the SPCA to receive pet food from our Pet Food Pantry. These families lined up at 3:30am in the dark and cold to get help feeding their pets.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The current economy is impacting even the four-legged members of the family. The SPCA has seen an increase in people giving up their pets; many of the surrenders are due to cost. Sometimes the cost of a bag of dog or cat food can make the difference in a pet remaining in the home with their familly, or being turned over to an animal shelter.
How will this project solve this problem?
In order to keep families together and pets out of animal shelters, the SPCA has set up a program to provide temporary assistance to pet owning families in need by providing a month’s supply of pet food.
