Summary

This project employs 70 women to hand-stitch shoes for a fair wage. The women are taught life-skills and work in a safe environment.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

This project aims to address the problems that AIDS has brought to the rural areas of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. In this province of South Africa there are high rates of unemployment and Soul of Africa seeks to address this issue by tackling problems at a grass-roots level. We offer employment to previously unemployed women by teaching them how to hand-stich shoes. The women work in a safe environment and are paid a fair wage, enabling them to earn money and provide for their families.

How will this project solve this problem?

We operate as a social enterprise that provides previously un-employed women with jobs. We aim at improving the high rates of unemployment in the province of KwaZulu Natal.

Potential Long Term Impact

The project will employ approx. 70 women giving them life skills and paying them a fair wage creating self-sustainability and empowerment.   (250)

Project Message

"By giving these women sustainable jobs they are able to help themselves rather than hope aid may come."
