Relief International’s Somalia team has continued to deliver life-saving health services to internally displaced persons and vulnerable members of the community in Galkayo, located in north-central Somalia. Our project has a special focus on mothers and children and aims to reduce morbidity and mortality in children under five and women of child- bearing age.
In total, through our Horumar health facility, Relief International has been able to consult with more than 30,000 patients, the majority of them being children. Through this project, 7,233 children were fully immunized against vaccine preventable diseases and 480 women received antenatal care services. In addition, over 10,000 people were treated against minor common illnesses.
This would not have been possible without our qualified and dedicated field staff and the strong relationship they have built with the local community despite the difficult work environment that exists for NGOs in Somalia.
Furthermore, support from our donors on Global Giving has helped ensure the success of our health and nutrition projects in Somalia and helped us to continue to meet the needs of mothers and children in Somalia. Our field staff thank you. Together, let’s continue to make a positive impact in the lives of Somali mothers and children.
