A team of volunteers went to Nepal from January through March of 2010. During this time we did a site survey of the site. We will be starting construction this summer with completion of the project by October 2010. Please seee notes below.

Global Reach International and Rotary International are jointly working on a solar and water project in the country of Nepal. Solar units will be placed on schools and other facilities throughout Nepal. We are also constructing water capture tanks made of cement to store water for future consumption. Water will be captured during the monsoon season so that people can have sufficient water throughout the year. A volunteer from Global Reach International through USAID Grant program helped with the planning of this project. The preceding report is from our January - March 2010 work trip to Nepal.

The trip to Nepal this year was a success and rewarding experience for everyone involved. Global Reach International is currently working with Rotary International on a solar project to bring solar energy and water to a school village in Nepal. The village name is Lee Lee and is located two hours outside Kathmandu. On our journey Devon Basher helped Global Reach and Rotary to create a site plan and prepare research to begin the construction of the solar and water shed project. He did a site analysis with the town engineer and village elders to work out a plan to bring this project to a reality. Without his expertise and knowledge of solar construction this project would not happen. We will be sending Devon back to Nepal in October to start the construction of the solar project. He will train the local village on how to operate and repair the unit if it is damaged or malfunctioning. He will also teach local electricians and engineers on how to construct the unit so that they can replicate the project for future school projects. We also had the opportunity to travel to an NRN (Nepal Residence Abroad) project. They constructed a nursing home in Chitwan for older citizens. We will be installing similar solar units at this facility. The facility was constructed by Nepali citizens living abroad. They have asked us to work jointly with them on helping bring solar energy to these people in need.
