Special Notice!

On Wednesday, October 9th beginning at 12:01 am EDT, for 24 hours, GlobalGiving is providing a Bonus Day!  Your contribution will be matched at 30% by Global Giving, up to the first $25,000 claimed.  Please take advantage of this added gift by donating, online, on October 9.  In the morning, if possible!

Our thanks to you all who have made these projects possible and to Global Giving for their ongoing efforts to support TanzSolar and other grassroots nonprofit organizations around the world.  We work very hard to provide the most impact for your dollars.

TanzSolar continues to provide maintenance for the more than 7,000 solar lighting systems we have distributed in the Lake Zone region.  We are currently saving for our next shipment of lighting systems, and hope to be able to purchase these kits before the end of the year to begin distribution in December.

Don’t forget!  October 9, in the morning as early as possible, make a donation!  Every donation, large or small, helps us to make a significant, long-term improvement in the lives of rural families without access to electric power.

Thank you.

TanzSolar’s Global Giving project, Affordable Solar Light for 12500 African Villagers, continues to subsidize the cost of solar lights for rural Tanzanian families.  We have just $1,000 left to complete this project, only 1.6%!

TanzSolar's newest solar packages for rural Tanzanians include portable lights, cell phone charger and USB port for any external DC load. A smaller option includes 2 lights with a 5W solar panel and a larger option includes 4 lights and a 15W solar panel, both come with cell phone charging port and USB port.

During the course of this project TanzSolar has learned that charging cell phones is a large concern for many villagers. Cell phones have allowed Tanzanians new ways to earn a living, however most villagers live with no electricity, which makes keeping a cell phone charged a high maintenance task. With the new cell phone charging ports and USB included in the solar systems, villagers have an easier time charging their phone and can focus their energy more on what is needed to support themselves and their families. We look forward to seeing how our customers like the new package. We will share their feedback with you, our donors, who have helped make all this possible! Thank you.

Your donations have paid for half of the cost of a solar-powered light for a village family.  The villagers themselves pay for the other half, which encourages them to value and care for these lights.  TanzSolar is headquartered in Musoma, a town in Northern Tanzania conveniently located to thousands of rural households.  We offer ongoing product support, battery replacements and equipment repairs at or below cost.  We produce educational literature and are working to introduce the populace to solar electricity and efficient electric lighting.  Together we are bringing knowledge and light to rural Africa.

In addition you might like to take a look at our school project; www.globalgiving.org/projects/solar-schools4africa/.  This project will fund the electrification of a rural secondary school in northern Tanzania.

Again we thank you for your generous support.  Your donations have changed the lives of this large, hard-working rural population in Tanzania, and they are deeply appreciated.

TanzSolar’s Global Giving project, Affordable Solar Light for 12,500 African Villagers, continues to subsidize the cost of solar lights for rural Tanzanian families.  Thousands of Tanzanians have already received subsidized solar lights through this program, thanks to your support.

TanzSolar received a big honor in June from the Green Africa program.

The annual Green Africa Award for Business was awarded to TanzSolar (www.tanzsolar.org) for championing environmental change in Africa. TanzSolar received the Award for bringing clean, renewable solar energy and electric lighting to villagers in Tanzania. TanzSolar received the Green Business & Environmental Management Award, one of ten categories.

Since 2007 TanzSolar has been working in the rural, northern regions of Tanzania to bring clean, renewable solar energy and electric lighting to village homes, schools and medical facilities.  TanzSolar is a nonprofit Tanzania based company that has distributed over 7,000 subsidized solar-lighting systems.  Nonetheless millions of rural households and businesses remain without access to electricity, so this work is just beginning.

Please take a look at our school project; www.globalgiving.org/projects/solar-schools4africa/.   You will see some photos here of our first rural school installation.

The TanzSolar staff and the villagers of Rural Musoma thank you for your generous support.  Together we are changing the world.

TanzSolar’s first Global Giving project, Affordable Solar Light for 12500 African Villagers, is 94% funded.  The money you have donated has changed the lives of over 11,500 villagers.  These families now have electric light.

Over the holidays I could not help but be especially struck by the contrast between our lives in the US and the lives of rural Tanzanians.  I love holiday lights and shopping for gifts for my family, don’t get me wrong.  And yet I remember that in Tanzania they may have a church service, but there’s no holiday event at home because they don’t have money to spend or places to shop.  Certainly no colored lights!  But they do have close family ties and a strong community.  They have farms and good food.  And now, thanks to you, many of them have clean, electric lighting.

Please help us finish this project and continue to support this ongoing work through our website; TanzSolar.org.  In addition, we have a second project on Global Giving; Solar Electricity for an African School.  Please take a look at that project.  It’s a much smaller project, with a $12,000 total budget.  We are raising money to complete our first rural secondary school electrification.  None of the Secondary Schools in our region have electricity.  We plan that this is the first of many, so it is especially important to us.

All of us at TanzSolar and the people of the Lake Zone in Tanzania thank you for your support.  Collectively your donations have made a significant difference to a large, hard-working rural population, and it is greatly appreciated.

We would like to offer a special thanks to our organizational supporters; Neutrogena Corporation, Finlandia, Café Press, Africa Solar Fund, Connect to Change, Rural Energy Agency of Tanzania, Fundacion Colegio Americano De Puebla, The Dwelle Family Foundation, Marin/SF Jewish Community Teen Foundation, SIGG USA, Weller Investment Company, Argent & Schuster Inc, and Lucapost.
