progress report on makutano project

Sustainable Development for All-Kenya has distributed 10 solar powered lanterns to Makutano village, as of today from the funds that we have got from global giving as well as individual contributions here in the organization, Also training on capacity building was conducted in partnership with environfit Kenya on better environmental practices and we are organizing a second one that will take place on 8th and 9th of March on innovative financial sustainability in collaboration with seed awards. The feedback we are getting is positive since the women are eager to further work with us in lighting the whole village, students also are enthusiastic about our lanterns and they converge every evening in the homes that got our first batch to study in groups as well as working on their home assignments. There are proposals from the women that they may start a rabbit rearing venture for meat, since they see it as a marketable activity that will boost their income significantly. Also there is need for a biogas plant in this village since they expressed their desire to impress cleaner energy technologies but lack of enough resources has tied their ability to move and act. We are considering getting on board partners in the field of biogas technology to help us see this succeed in this village. Our latest design for Makutano has been one of the best developments on our mwangabora lanterns since it is able to light for six hours when fully charged.
