We use soccer to teach kids valuable life skills such as respect, communication, and teamwork that benefit them off the field and in the classroom. Help us serve more kids with your donation!
This program serves McLendon Elementary School in Decatur, GA. The school has a large refugee population, soccer is a way for them to integrate into the mainstream with American-born kids. 118 kids, almost 1/4 of the student body, have signed up for the program. 91% of the students at McLendon are economically disadvantaged, our free program is vital for their participation in a positive activity. Improved behavior will improve their performance in school.
While teaching soccer skills, we teach life skills such as respect, communication, and teamwork. Trained coaches discuss the chosen life skills with the participants and how it affects their lives on and off the field.
The life skills taught in the program help improve behavior, as well as grades, in school. The activity can help lead to improved physical fitness. The interaction with other kids decreases peer conflict and increases understanding between cultures.
