Shoe Shout-Out: MADRE's Project Makes News!

Soles4Souls, an organization that collects and provides shoes for people living in extreme poverty and survivors of natural disasters, recently mentioned MADRE’s Shoes for Haitian Girls project on their blog!

Their post highlights the recent distribution of over 530 pairs of shoes given to girls through MADRE’s local partner KOFAVIV. Soles4Souls also mentions the success of the Shoes for Haitian Girls project and includes anecdotes from grateful project participants.

An excerpt from the blog tells the story of Widnie, a 16-year-old girl who received a new pair of closed toe black shoes. Widnie’s sandals had recently broken, forcing her to walk long distances to and from school with a missing sole.

By the time of KOFAVIV’s shoe distribution, Widnie’s sore feet were cracked, scratched and weathered. She was thrilled when KOFAVIV gave her new pair of comfortable black shoes to wear to school every day.
