Through OWFI, Yanar Mohammed has committed herself to stop atrocities against Iraqi women and defend their rights. She is an important and passionate speaker on behalf of Iraqi women worldwide. Ms. Mohammed, her then-husband, and their infant son left Iraq in 1993 and settled in Canada in 1995, where she worked with other Iraqi women to establish the Defense of Iraqi Women's Rights in 1998.

Organization for Women's Freedom in Iraq - OWFI

OWFI was formed in 1992 in the north of Iraq by volunteers, in order to provide shelter services (including armed protection, safe dwelling, and legal services) for women.
