Directly benefit girls who are in immediate need of school fees and uniforms as well as girls who are in abusive homes and need emergency services.
Women, and girls in particular, bear the burden of poverty in Zimbabwe. The country’s current economic and political turmoil has only intensified the challenges for girls. They are often the victims of sexual violence and rape and are among the most likely to be infected by HIV. Many families are unable to send their children to school, and if they can, they usually favor boys. Those that have gone to school at one point end up dropping out. Many girls are orphans or heads of households.
IDEX partners with the Girl Child Network (GCN) who uses the funds to pay for school fees, uniforms, and nutritious meals –as well as counseling, AIDS prevention and leadership training – for the most disadvantaged yet promising young students.
GCN works tirelessly and effectively to raise nationwide awareness of the needs of the girl child. Educating and counseling impoverished girls over the long term reduces HIV-prevalence and provides opportunities for economic independence.
I would like to thank GCN for paying for my school fees. Without help, I don’t know what I would have done. Without your love and interest, I would have suffered because of the situation I was in.
