Our team had identified four schools in Manga District - formerly part of Kisii District (the locality where our program is being focused) which had high numbers of orphans enrolled as pupils. This program which is a pilot project in Kisii District aims to send more than 400 orphans to schools and supporting their education, your continued contribution has seen as enroll a number of orphans, provided learning materials to orphans.
Four schools namely Bigogo,Nyaisa, Nyakongo and Tombe were identified to be having high number of orphans. These schools lacked recreational facilities and children were not fully utilizing their games time. The children were using old traditional items to play out of which most were putting them at risk of injuries. The program focuses on orphans but due to the high number of orphans in the identified schools we decided to provide recreational kits to the schools as a whole so that both can benefit from the recreational kits.
This activity was conducted on 17th June, 2011 to the four schools ( Bigogo , Nyaisa and Nyakongo and Tombe),upon arrival to the schools we were received with jubilation and students in Bigogo primary school could not hide their anxiety as some of them left their classrooms to come meet us.
A recreational kit was distributed to each school, a recreational kit comprises of ;2 footballs,4 skipping ropes, 2 volleyballs and nets, 2 handballs and 1 first aid kit. Following our announcement that we were coming to the schools to distribute the recreational kits, more children attended school with the hope of acquiring the kits which was unusual according to the teachers of the schools. The children were thrilled and happy to have these items distributed to them and could not hide their joy, the teachers also were not spared either. And as one teacher from Bigogo put it " As long as these recreational activities are available, children will never miss school as they will always want to play with them, this will make our work easier as we will have all the students attend class,we are really grateful to our donors".
The teachers had a hard time sending children back to classes after we had left as the children had embarked fully to playing forgeting that they had classes to attend to.The teachers and students of the three schools were grateful for the provisions and encouraged the donors to continue with their kind hearts towards the cause of the program.
We have attached photos of exited children as they receive the recreational kits. Our team plans to reach other schools possibly 7 primary schools before the end of this year.Your help has made us put a smile on these orphans, your help will make us put a permanent smile on them.Thank you so much
