SEDS is an independent, student-based organization which promotes the exploration and development of space. SEDS pursues this mission by educating people about the benefits of space, by supporting a network of interested students, by providing an opportunity for members to develop their leadership skills, and inspiring people through our involvement in space-related projects.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Space exploration and development is not seen as a priority by the majority of the public. We see a grave problem with the lack of support for stronger efforts to support space exploration and settlement efforts. Herein lies the central goals of SEDS: to educate the public on the current matters of space, inspire the young generation to realize the great benefits of investing aspirations of tomorrow in space programs, and enabling student enthusiasts to develop careers in the space industry.
How will this project solve this problem?
Students envision the aspirations for our future. SEDS seeks to give these students the opportunity to be leaders while still being in school through promoting activities, projects, and hosting events. With thought evoking activities for students, the organization is acting to develop skilled professionals to lead a new generation. SEDS values the diverse opinions that are present in the spaceflight community and students are able to explore the variety of careers contained within it.
Potential Long Term Impact
We will educate 1000+ students across the US nation and work with our international partners to encourage the youth to take responsibility and initiative to develop a stronger tomorrow. While SEDS is an interest group that seeks to promote exploring and developing space, our best path forward can often come from unexpected directions; because of this the organization seeks to promote active leadership and involvement in fostering the debate of these topics, both among ourselves and the public.
